FOR RETIRED MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS
2027 Plan Year · Insured by MetLife
The Milwaukee Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 215 has worked diligently to secure an additional voluntary benefit now available to all Retired Public Safety Officers. While our retirement benefits have long been recognized as exceptional, one important component had been missing — access to dental and vision.
We are pleased to continue offering an exclusive Voluntary Group Dental and Vision program for all retired Public Safety Officers of the City of Milwaukee. This group plan is unavailable on the individual market and is offered solely to our retired public safety community. Local 215 collaborated closely with the City of Milwaukee Employee Retirement System (CMERS) and the CMERS Pension Board to bring this valuable benefit forward.
Below, you will find details on the benefits available to all eligible retired Public Safety Officers. Premiums for this coverage are automatically deducted from your monthly pension payments and, importantly, count toward the $3,000 annual “HELPS” maximum for qualified benefit payments.
Eligible: retired City of Milwaukee fire and police officers and their dependents, including children under age 27.
When can I enroll? During annual open enrollment, or within 31 days of a qualifying event — such as your COBRA coverage ending or losing other dental or vision coverage. Rates for 2027 are the same as 2026.

No dental ID card needed
Just tell your dentist you are enrolled in a MetLife dental plan. They can confirm your coverage by phone.
Your family can choose their own dentists
You and each covered dependent can see any dentist you like.
Get a cost estimate first
For work over $300, ask your dentist for a pre-treatment estimate from MetLife so you know your share before treatment.
Major work limits
Crowns: once per tooth every 10 years. Bridges and dentures: once every 10 years. Implants are covered as major care.
Joining dental late?
If you did not enroll when first eligible, waiting periods apply: preventive care right away, fillings after 6 months, other basic care after 12 months, major care after 24 months.
Life changes mid-year
Marriage, a new child, or losing a spouse’s dental coverage? Contact us within 31 days to make a change, effective the first of the next month.
Vision extras
20% off additional pairs of glasses and sunglasses, 15–20% off LASIK at participating locations, and contact lens fittings capped at a $60 copay.
A tax break for retired officers
Because premiums come out of your pension, they count toward the $3,000 yearly HELPS exclusion. Ask your tax preparer how it applies to you.
